Tomáš Roubal (*1982), has studied at VŠVU Bratislava (prof. R. Jančovič)

Roubal’s artwork already has its own specific signature. The content of his artwork is about commenting on socio-political problems and the form of his artwork is about searching for the possibilities of intermedia art. Simple drawings with clearly readable lines are always present and understandable without any lengthy comments. It is the simplicity of the message that is important for understanding Roubal’s artwork. It is up to everybody to interpret it in own way. The artist presents himself in the Altán Klamovka Gallery with a wooden object that combines at first sight inhomogeneous materials – wood, metal and glass. The actual object made for the gallery space creates a certain situation that makes the viewer visually examine the structure of the individual materials. The growth rings of the wood and the milled parts of metal elements with glass sheets draw us into the DIY world, while revealing the beauty of seemingly ordinary materials. The name Hostility refers to the age-old anger that stems from the societal problem of permanent fear often caused by manipulating information.

The artist uses a combined technique, works with metal, wood, ceramics and experiments with construction materials, all this of course on the background of classical art media, although his initial medium is drawing. Lately, he has been creating objects that are somewhere between 2D and 3D, and include sound.
